Men's Soccer Shuts Out Eureka 5-0

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 5-0 victory at Eureka College on Wednesday night.  Five different Beavers scored and Dawson Klunk defended the only shot put on him as he also moves to 2-0 in goal as the reigning conference defensive player of the week.

The other conference player of the week Luke Atkinson, who won the offensive award, led off the scoring with an unassisted goal 12 minutes into the match.  Atkinson had scored the first three goals of the season before he let some of his teammates join in on the scoring fun.  Atkinson played for former Blackburn standout Tim Gould at Alton Marquette and has had a great start to his freshman season.

The match remained 1-0 until just before halftime when Michael Rodriguez scored at 43:29 with the assist credited to Edmond Alnomugisha.

The rain soaked Beavers then poured it on the Red Devils with three second half goals. Hayden Reese scored eleven minutes into the period as Alnomugisha recorded his second assist of the night.  About four minutes later Reese assisted on Jordan Leihser's goal to put Blackburn up 4-0.

The Beavers closed out the scoring at 82:40 as Jaime Jose Pineda scored with a double assist from Nick Russell and Jack McGrath.

"Tonight's weather conditions were tough to play in, but the guys handled it gracefully and played well," said Blackburn Coach Rob Steinkuehler.  "We improved on some things tactically from our prior game against Principia which made me proud," added Steinkuehler.

"We need to see growth and progress every match and our guys delivered tonight.  I loved that we had five different players find the back of the net.  It was a great team effort and we look forward to Saturday," added Steinkuehler.

The Beavers travel to Louisville on Saturday to face Spalding University looking to snap a two-match losing streak to the Golden Eagles.
