Beavers Drop Conference Match to Fontbonne

Beavers Drop Conference Match to Fontbonne

Blackburn Women's soccer lost a SLIAC matchup on Wednesday afternoon to the Fontbonne Griffins. The final score of the game was 9-0.

Early scoring from the Griffins put the Beavers against the wall. An opening goal from Fontbonne's Bianca Cortez-Perez gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead, and another goal shortly after by Alyson Carroll didn't give the Beavers much room to breathe.

Strong offensive pressure was maintained by Fontbonne during the match, however the Beavers were able to put the Griffins in a stalemate in the first half. A defensive change and strong breakaways from Blackburn gave the Beavers a fighting chance. However, Fontbonne was not letting off the gas pedal, and they continued their offensive stand in the second half.

Several Fontbonne players scored goals, including Haley Buscher, Mia Patterson, and Caitlyn Smith. Blackburn goalkeeper, Rylee Helus, was credited with 16 saves on the day.

The Beavers will play their next match against Greenville University on Saturday evening. The game will take place at Greenville University, and kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
