Beavers Drop Homecoming Match to Principia

Beavers Drop Homecoming Match to Principia

Blackburn Women’s soccer played on Homecoming weekend on a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon against their SLIAC conference foe, the Principia Panthers. The Beavers, unfortunately, lost to the Panthers by the score of 5-0.

As per Homecoming Weekend, we had one of the Homecoming court winners, Miriam Wall-Uddin hand the official ball to the officials at the start of the game.

In the first half, both teams seemed pretty even. Yet, at the 15:07 mark, Principia’s Dafne Muniz scored on a corner kick, putting the Panthers up 1-0. The Panthers would carry on with this lead to half-time as the Beaver’s defense and goalkeeper, Rylee Helus kept their offense back from scoring, as Helus ended the first half with four saves.

In the second half, Principia went on the attack and ended up scoring four goals in this half. It started at the 51:47 mark when Panthers Mirsa Boyer hit high near the crossbar and scored to put them up 2-0.

Then minutes later, Principia Viviane De Castro would be fouled by Blackburn’s Jada Lurry in the box causing a penalty. In which, De Castro kicked and scored to put Principia up by 3-0.

Later on, we had goals back to back by the Panthers as Mirsa Boyer would find the net again at 76:12 of the game, and Kaija Ufert at 78:19 minutes of the game. Leading to the end of the game.

Blackburn had great opportunities during the match as they had a good shot by Beavers’s own Lexi Lusk that was placed into the top corner while the goalkeeper was off her line, yet one of the Panthers headed it out.

Blackburn’s Goalkeeper Rylee Helus ended this game with nine saves compared to Principia’s one.

The Lady Beavers now sit at an overall record of 1-5 (0-3 in the SLIAC conference). They are hoping to get their first conference win on Wednesday, September 28 against Fontbonne. This game will be at home and it will begin at 1:00 p.m.
