Beavers Use Second Half Goal to Forge Tie in Conference Opener

The Blackburn College Women's Soccer Team tied Principia in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams at 1-1 on Saturday afternoon in Carlinville. Senior Izzy Erickson found the back of the net in the 55th minute of the match to tie the score at 1-1.  The goal was Erickson's second of the season while Sophia King picked up her second assist of the season on the play. Blackburn is 3-2-3 on the season, while Principia falls to 0-6-1.

Principia scored first late in the first half as Sarah Smith had a goal in the 42nd minute.  For the match, the Panthers out-shot Blackburn by a 12-6 margin but their other scoring opportunities were stopped by Sophia Faro as she replaced Libby Adams in goal for the second half.

The Beavers will spend a busy week on the road as they travel to St. Louis on Tuesday to face Webster University and then down to Columbus, Mississippi for a Thursday match against Mississippi University for Women.
