Blackburn Women’s Soccer settled with a 2-2 tie against Lyon

The Blackburn College Women’s Soccer Team played on a beautiful sunny Wednesday afternoon against their SLIAC conference foe, the Lyon College Scots. The Beavers took the tie against the Scots with a score of 2-2.

In the first half, Blackburn came off strong as it didn’t take long for them to score. In the 3rd minute, Senior Libby Adams scored the first goal of the game to give the Beavers the lead, 1-0. Nonetheless, both teams were going back and forth with each other as it was physical most of the game. That physicality did affect the Beavers as at the 13:21 mark of the game, there was a penalty called against Blackburn. Lyon conquered the opportunity to even up the score as Scot’s Alli Mead placed the penalty in the left corner of the net that it was impossible for Blackburn Goalkeeper, Sofia Faro to reach, evening up the score to 1-1. Yet, five minutes later, Beavers Sophia King received a great through ball from Libby Adams that she ended up hitting into the back of the net, which took us to halftime with the score, 2-1, in favor of Blackburn.

In the second half, Lyon was determined to even up the score. They were mostly on the attack and took nine shots throughout the half. Inevitably they found the tie as in the 69th minute, Scots Taylor Hammons scored for Lyon as a result of a loose ball in the box resulting in the final score of the day, 2-2.

As mentioned, Blackburn and Lyon were physical throughout the match, resulting in 11 total fouls by both teams (eight on Lyon, three on Blackburn). This also led to some yellow cards being handed out for both teams as Blackburn’s Izzy Erickson and Lyon’s Taylor Banderas received one.

The Beavers now sit at an overall record of 3-5-4 (0-3-2 in the SLIAC conference). They are hoping to get their first conference win on Thursday, October 19 against Spalding University. This game will be at home and it will begin at 3:00 p.m.
