Women's Track Brings Home Team Sportsmanship Award From SLIAC Outdoor Championships

The Blackburn women’s track team completed their season on Saturday, April 29, at the SLIAC Outdoor Track Championships in Greenville. Three women competed for Blackburn and brought home the team sportsmanship award in their first season back on the track in the SLIAC era.

Leading the way for the women’s team was Emily Eitzenhefer who scored for the team by taking fifth in the high jump with a college PR of 1.42 meters. Eitzenhefer also competed in the long jump, taking tenth with another college PR of 4.23 meters. Molly Koskey and Olivia Leemon competed in the 1500 meters for Blackburn and finished seventh (6:02.15) and ninth (6:16.19), respectively.

Coach Al Sturgeon said, “Emily surprised herself with her success in the high jump, and it was fun to see her begin to retrieve her jumping prowess from high school! And Molly and Olivia raced hard, as expected, and were so close to scoring for the team, too! But those who know me best won’t be surprised to hear that I am most proud of the women’s team for receiving the team sportsmanship award. That was well-deserved for the respect and kindness they show both to the sport and their fellow competitors, and I love it when that is recognized.”
