Koskey and Leemon Race Outdoors at Wash U Invite

Cold temperatures and 40mph wind gusts greeted the competitors at the Wash U Invite in St. Louis on Saturday, April 1, and Molly Koskey and Olivia Leemon represented the Blackburn women’s team as they competed in the first outdoor track meet for Blackburn College in the 21st Century. The historic occasion appropriately occurred at a historic venue: Francis Olympic Field, site of the 1904 Summer Olympic Games.

Leemon was the first on the track for Blackburn, and she completed her first-ever attempt at the 1500 meters in 6:23.58. Later, Koskey competed her first ever attempt at the 800 meters in 3:01.18.

Coach Al Sturgeon said, “It is easy to be proud of Molly and Olivia. They are hard workers, strong competitors, and natural leaders. Both hit times today in the neighborhood that I projected for them, and it will be interesting to see what they do as the rest of the outdoor season unfolds.”

Both Koskey and Leemon expect additional teammates to join them when they are slated to compete again at the True Blue Invite in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Friday, April 7, at Illinois College.
