Blackburn Volleyball falls to Webster in Quarterfinals

Blackburn Women's Volleyball fell to Wester in the SLIAC Quarterfinals in three sets. Blackburn finished sixth in the SLIAC for regular season play and had an overall record of five wins and eight losses heading into today's playoff match. Webster was ten and three and finished third in the conference. With this loss, the Beavers will play Tuesday night in a consolation match-up and the opponent and time is TBA.

Blackburn was led offensively by Kaitlyn Wiegand who had 11 kills and 27 total attacks. Wiegand became the all-time leader in kills for Blackburn in the first set. She only needed three kills to take the record of 618 kills. Freshmen Emilie King and Kyleigh Marty each had five kills. Autumn Wilson was credited with 20 assists. 

 

Amanda Swedberg led the Beavers defensively with 14 digs and Wilson followed right behind her with 13 of her own. 

 

This was the third meeting between the Beavers and the Gorloks. Webster swept the season series winning both matches with a score of three to zero.

Regular season stats:

 

As a team, Blackburn was top four in total blocks and blocks per set. The Beavers were credited with 60 total blocks and averaged 1.27 blocks per set. Individually, Sophomore Amanda Swedberg (Sycamore, Illinois / Sycamore) was second in conference with 238 digs in the regular season. Her 5.06 digs per set was third best in the regular season.She ranked third in service aces per set with 0.57. Junior Lucy Magnussen (Hampshire, Illinois / Hampshire) finished fifth in conference with a .262 hitting percentage. Freshman Emily Eitzenhefer (New Athens, Illinois / New Athens) was fifth in the SLIAC with 0.67 blocks per set. Sohmpore Autumn Wilson finished ninth in conference with 4.55 assists per set.
