Blackburn Volleyball won their first game on February 6th, 2021 against the visiting Fontbonne University Griffins. The Beavers won in five sets, with multiple players contributing both offensively and defensively to the win. The game was played at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois. 

Set 1: Blackburn 20, Fontbonne 25

Set 5: Blackburn 15, Fontbonne 10

Sophomore Elizabeth Bowyer finished with nine kills, out of 20 total attacks. She also had two assists, and two solo blocks. Senior Kaitlyn Weigand finished with ten kills. Junior Lucy Magnussen led the team with eleven kills. She also had two block assists.

Defensively, freshman Emilie King led the Beavers. She tallied up 16 digs, as well as 25 service receptions. Sophomore Amanda Swedberg followed close behind, tallying up twelve digs and 26 service receptions. Sophomore Sabrina Kelsey also contributed with eleven digs of her own.

Swedberg and sophomore Autumn Wilson tied with four service aces each. Wilson's aces came at a crucial time in the game, with three consecutive aces at the beginning of the fifth set, giving Blackburn a lead that they never lost. Wilson also finished with seven digs, as well as 21 assists.

As a team, Blackburn finished with 47 kills, 40 assists, thirteen aces, and 67 digs. 

Fontbonne was led offensively by Hannah Gallagher. She finished with 15 kills, and 51 total attacks. Jadyn Fitzgerald finished with twelve kills, and 40 total attacks. Fontbonne as a team had 56 kills. Ella Werner led the team with 22 assists, while Abby Grumich finished with 20. 

Defensively, Fontbonne was led by Hannah Gallagher, who finished with 20 digs. Libero Emma Pranik finished with 15 digs, and Rae Andrews followed close behind, tallying up twelve digs of her own. Jadyn Fitzgerald also contributed with ten of her own. As a team, Fontbonne had 72 digs, and 3 blocks. 

With this game, Blackburn moves to an overall record of 1-0. Their next game will be on Saturday, February 13th, 2021. They will travel to Fulton, Missouri, to take on Westminster College. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
