Governors State Pulls Away With Win Over Beavers

Blackburn Volleyball hosted Governors State University on Friday evening. The Jaguars of Governors State took the match in three sets.

Set 1: Governors State 25, Blackburn 23

Set 2: Governors State 25, Blackburn 19

Set 3: Governors State 25, Blackburn 13

The first set was intense as Blackburn and Governors State were both making tremendous efforts to find gaps in the opposing defense. The Beavers were able to roll ahead early thanks to a pair of kills from Elizabeth Bowyer. However, Governors State turned the tide with help from their captain, Dunja Tatic.

Tatic finished the match with 22 kills, leading her team. She also had 17 service receptions in the match, along with three service aces.

After securing the first set, which featured twelve ties and seven lead changes, Governors State began pulling away with the match.

In the second set, Governors State took the lead initially, and never let up. After suffering the second set loss, Blackburn attempted to turn the momentum in the third set. However, Governors State would not let the Beavers back into the game, and they secured the match with a powerful third set.

Blackburn finished with 29 kills on 110 attacks. The Beavers had four service aces alongside five team blocks. The well-known Autumn Wilson added to her career digs total with fourteen in tonight’s match. With a pair of games tomorrow, Wilson is closing in fast on the 1,100 mark.

Blackburn will turn around and head to Webster University tomorrow morning for a tri-match, featuring Blackburn, Fontbonne, and Webster. Blackburn will face Fontbonne at 12:00 p.m., and then Webster at 2:00 p.m. Both games will take place at Webster University.
