King Named Player of the Week; Muckensturm Makes All-Conference

Blackburn Volleyball’s Emilie King was named the Female Player of the Week, as well as the Reno’s Pizza Player of the Week. This decision comes after King’s performance against Webster University in the SLIAC Volleyball Tournament Quarterfinal match.

The Beavers visited Webster University on November 2nd for their Quarterfinals match. The Gorloks won the match by a final score of 3-1.

King led the Beavers in the match with twelve kills on 36 attacks, and overall had a standout performance. She arguably was the reason that the Beavers were able to steal the second set from the Gorloks.

King also helped in a few other areas, collecting a few digs, as well as a block assist. She recorded 12.5 points in total for the Beavers in a match that was down to the wire.

Not only did King receive Player of the Week honors, but fellow teammate Jessica Muckensturm also received her own recognition in the 2022 SLIAC Volleyball Tournament. Muckensturm was named to the All-Conference Third Team following the Championship match on Saturday evening.

Muckensturm finished the 2022 season with a total of 182 kills, and a final hitting percentage of .179, which ranked her at #12 in the conference for kills.

In her season stat line, Muckensturm also had 22 service aces, compared to zero during her last season. She also collected 59 digs during the season, with the addition of two solo blocks and 43 block assists. Muckensturm finished this season with 227.5 points for the Beavers, which is a step up from her last season, where she recorded 182 points.

A player to keep an eye on, Muckensturm’s current pace of kills puts her on track to possibly break the all-time kills record at Blackburn College in her future seasons. At the end of her sophomore year, she has 327 career kills, just 400 behind the record.
