Senior Night Ends With Win for Beavers

Blackburn Volleyball hosted Principia College for their senior night on Tuesday. Blackburn took the match in three sets, by the following scores:

Set 1: Blackburn 25, Principia 6

Set 2: Blackburn 25, Principia 10

Set 3: Blackburn 25, Principia 8

 

Blackburn recognized the careers of three seniors prior to the match. Autumn Wilson, Sabrina Kelsey, and Elizabeth Bowyer were all given recognition for their contributions and achievements towards the Blackburn Volleyball program over the past four year. Head coach Marlee Kirby expressed her gratitude towards everything the young ladies have accomplished during their careers.

 

Most notably is Autumn Wilson’s recent milestone of 1,000 career digs. Besides Wilson, the only other player to ever reach 1,000 career digs was Kirby. Following tonight’s match, Wilson sits at 1,071.

 

Blackburn was able to establish a strong offensive attack over the Panthers after giving away two points to star the game. Bowyer went on a hot streak, collecting consecutive kills to put the Beavers ahead. Bowyer finished the match with ten kills on 16 attacks, for a final hitting percentage of .500.

 

Other notables for the Beavers from tonight’s match include Alayna McCario, who finished with five kills on ten attacks, with one error. Sabrina Kelsey added to her career assists total, collecting 20 in tonight’s match.

 

Altogether, the Beavers finished with 27 kills, 69 attacks, thirteen service aces, 32 digs, and six team blocks. Principia finished with twelve kills on 72 attacks, 28 digs and one team block.

 

Blackburn will have a brief intermission before their next match. Governors State University will be making the long trip down to Carlinville, where the Beavers will host the Jaguars for a nonconference matchup. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
