Blackburn Split Double-Header versus Spalding and Webster University

The Blackburn Women’s Volleyball Team hosted a tri-match with SLIAC conference opponents, Spalding University and Webster Univeristy. The Beavers going 1-1 on the day.  

In the first match, Blackburn faced off against Spalding in the first game of the afternoon. Spalding came out hot winning the first two sets 25 to 13 and 25-21. They were led by Jada Branch who had 14 kills. The Beavers did not give up coming out hot in the third set crushing the Golden Eagles in a 25-9 win. The Beavers would battle hard in the fourth set but would fall 25-21, losing 3-1.  The Beavers were led by Jessica Muckensturm who had 10 kills. Tessa Funderburk would lead the assist category with 22 assists. Tam Nguyen and Holly Heuerman had 17 and 14 digs. 

 

Yet, In Blackburn’s second and last game of the afternoon, they bounced back as they defeated the Webster University Gorlocks in three straight sets, (25-19, 25-22, 25-22). They were led this game by Cara Pence who ended up having 13 kills. Jessica Mukenstrum followed along with 10 kills with an impressive .563 killing %. Tessa Funderburk also led this game in the assist category with 21 assists. Tam Nguyen led the digs category with 15 digs, followed by Funderburk with 14 digs of her own.


Blackburn is currently 7-19 on the season (2-10 in the SLIAC). The Beavers hope to take the good and the bad of this weekend as they play Wednesday night taking on Westminster College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Match.
