Volleyball Falls in Five Set Thriller
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball hosted Lyon College in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Thursday night in a match that went five sets but were unable to pull off the upset victory as the Beavers fell 3-2.
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball hosted Lyon College in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Thursday night in a match that went five sets but were unable to pull off the upset victory as the Beavers fell 3-2.
Junior Payton Moeglin led the offensive effort with 18 digs while hitting .400 on the night. Senior Cara Pence added 13 digs and senior Jessica Muckensturm chipped in with eight. Sophomore Kenadee Frey aided the attack with 38 assists.
Defensively, Pence lead the way with 18 digs while sophomore Bailey Bennett had 17. Zoe Mitchell tallied a solo block and four block assists with Muckensturm adding a solo and three block assists.
Lyon took the first set 25-22 but the Beavers responded by scoring the first six points in the second set on their way to winning the set 25-15. The thir set saw a 9-9 tie before BC rallied with a 6-1 run to make 15-10 which helped propel them to winning the set 25-21. In the fourth, it was soon 8-8 but another Blackburn rally put the Beavers up 15-10 once again. However, the Scots answered and managed to take a 25-18 set win to tie it at 2-2 and force a fifth set.
In the final set, Lyon jumped out 3-0 but Blackburn answered to make it 6-6. Unfortunately, the Scots responded with a 4-1 run which proved too much for BC to overcome with Lyon winning the set 15-11 to take the 3-2 match win.
The Beavers return to action Friday evening for a rematch with the Scots.
