Blackburn Celebrates Senior Day
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball celebrated their three seniors prior to Wednesday night's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Fontbonne University.
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball celebrated their three seniors prior to Wednesday night's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Fontbonne University. The team honored Abygail Sobczak, Jessica Muckensturm and Cara Pence for all of the contributions to the program during the career with the Beavers.
During the match, Pence led the offense with 11 kills with Muckensturm adding seven. Sophomore Kenadee Frey aided the effort with 24 assists. Junior Payton Moeglin chipped in with three assists.
Defensively, freshman Jessi Wright and Frey paced the squad with 17 digs each. Pence and Moeglin each notched 11.
In the match, the first two sets saw the teams tied at 21-21 but the Griffins, who are fighting for the top spot in the conference was able to close out both sets, winning the first one 25-21 and the second set 25-22. The third set featured Blackburn fight back from a slow start to tie the set 11-11 but were unable to get ahead before falling 25-19.
The Beavers will turn their attention to a tri-match at Spalding University where they will take on Spalding and Eureka College in more SLIAC action.
