Beavers Fall in Tight Five-Set Match

EUREKA, IL -- The Blackburn College Volleyball Team took a trip to Eureka College for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon. The match went a full five sets but the Beavers were unable to take victory, falling 3-2 to the Red Devils.
BC took the first set 25-20 but dropped the next two sets 25-19 and 25-15 before taking the fourth set 25-20 to tie it at 2-2. The fifth set saw the teams battle to an 8-8 tie but Eureka was able to pull ahead to take a 15-11 victory and win the match 3-2.
For the Beavers, senior Cara Pence led the offensive attack with 20 kills. Senior Jessica Muckensturm added 12 with junior Zoe Mitchell posting 11. Sophomore Kenadee Frey notched 42 assists.
Defensively, Pence had a team-best 22 digs. Junior Payton Moeglin had 15 and senior Abygail Sobczak tallied 12. Muckensturm also chipped in to the defense with two solo blocks.
Despite the loss, Blackburn remains in the SLIAC Tournament hunt. The Beavers are two games back from Eureka and Webster University with four games remaining. The team will face Mississippi University for Women two times, who is 0-11 in league games, in the final four games. They will end the season taking on Webster as well. As of today, the Beavers hold tiebreakers over both Eureka and Webster.
