Early Score Not Enough as Beavers Fall to Lyon

CARLINVILLE, IL – Blackburn College Baseball hosted new St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe in a league doubleheader and scored the first run of the day but it was not enough as the Beavers fell to the Scots 5-1 and 6-0.

Junior Andrew Lozano led the way with four hits while freshman Gehrig Loera added two hits. The pair also each hit a double. Junior Peyton Blackburn tallied nine strikeouts in six innings pitched.

In the opener, Loera got the bottom of the first inning started with a double and got to third off a wild pitch. Sophomore Harley Carney followed with a ball to the shortstop and the throw home was off target allowing Loera to give Blackburn a 1-0 lead.

However, the Scots rallied with four runs in the third inning and added another in the next inning to take a 5-1 win.

The nightcap saw Lyon score three runs in the third before putting two across in the seventh and one more in the ninth for the 6-0 victory.

The two teams return to action Sunday for another doubleheader, but the games will be counted as nonconference games and will not count toward league standing.
